Is Uber or Ola available in Varanasi?
Yes. At present the services available for local or intercity road taxis are available through-
Ola: Taxi aggregator working in Varanasi for long now. They have various options availabe via their andoid or iphone apps. Till recently the facility of reserving or scheduled time was not available but that might change. You can check for yourself. Playstore or google play. Requires OTP provided by app to be provided to driver at the begining of ride.
Using Ola:
• Payments: Can be done in cash or cashless options like Ola money, UPI, debit card, credit cards, Jio money etc
• Save on Auto, Share Pass: Savings in your daily commute with Cab Pass, Auto Pass & Share Pass
• Ola Select: Become an Ola Select member to avail exclusive benefits like Prime Sedans at Mini fares & more
• Know fares & ride features: Check fares & various features of a ride category before booking; provides peace of mind and allays fear of being ripped off in a strange place.
• Ola Play: Enjoy free in-cab entertainment in Prime Play, Prime SUV, Lux, Outstation and other select rides. Play songs, Videos, movies, TV shows and more on the go!
• Schedule a ride: Choose ‘RIDE LATER’ to book a cab/taxi in advance from anywhere — Not available in all cities especially in small ones.
Uber: Uber is also app based on android or apple iphone and is now available. Playstore or google play The terms and conditions are quite similar to those provided by Ola and has quite good revies.
Local Taxi services:
These can be booked from travel agents or hotels and do provide personalized services. In some situations it is more costly but overall not by much and can be helpful in guided city tours, intercity tours or situations requiring long wait times and doing touristy things.
Meru: Provides taxi with chauffer based upon time for which it is booked or distance travelled. Can also be booked on android or ios based apps store. In Varanasi Meru provides outstation bookings only and may not agree to handle airport to intracity destinations in Varanasi; outstation trips are fine with effective rate of about 12 Rs per kilometer.
Gozocabs.com GoZo cabs: Another online based taxi rental service.
Other taxi services available in India are not necessarily available in Varanasi at present. I will try to update as early as possible. please do drop a link. There are multiple local services and TukTuk( Electric or Petrol based threewheeled) services which are quite cheap and readily available for local and short distances.
